Bethany Brewster had an outstanding

athletic career at Valley Lutheran High School where she

was a 10-time state champion in both track and cross-country.

In track she was a four-time state champion in the 3200

meters (1995-98), a three-time title holder in the 1600-meters

(1996-98), while capturing the state title in the 800 meters in

1998. She is the Saginaw County record holder in the

1600-meters (4:50.7). In cross country Brewster was the

Saginaw County champion in 1994 and a two-time state

champion (1996-97). Brewster was a Cross Country Foot

Locker finalist in 1997 and the USA Track and Field Junior National runner-up in ’98 as she ran the 1500-meters in 4:32.32. She was the National Scholastic Outdoor Champion in 1998 as she ran the mile and won the event in a time of 4:50.43. She continued her stellar running career after landing a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin. The Freeland native made Big Ten history as she became the first athlete to be named to the All-Big Ten cross country team four consecutive years. She was named Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2001 en route to a championship finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. She was an All-American selection in 2000 in addition to achieving All-America status three times in indoor track (1999, 2001, 2003) and twice in outdoor track (2002, 2003). Brewster, who was in the final qualifying group of the 1500-meter run for the United State Olympic team in July of 2004, was named All-Big Ten 11 times and All-American six times. After graduating from Wisconsin she took over as Senior Woman Administrator in the Edgewood College (Wis.) athletic department. Brewster has served as the college’s head cross country coach for both men’s and women’s teams since 2004. In 2005, she became the first head coach of the Eagle’s men’s and women’s track programs.
