Saginaw High School
Class A State Track and Field Championship Teams

*Saginaw High School's track and field team won an unprecidented five consecutive Class A state track and field championships from 1945-49, eclipsing the state record of four straight championships by Detroit Northwestern in the 1920's. Carl A. Nordberg coached the 1945 squad, with Herb Korf directing the Trojans from 1946-49.

*1945 - Nosed out Flint Central by a single point, 29 1/2 to 28 1/2 when the half-mile relay team sped to victory in the last event of the meet. The Trojans also captured the Class A State Indoor Championship. Its only loss of the season came in the Saginaw Valley meet where they lost by one-half of a point to Flint Northern

*1946 - Toppled crosstown-rival Arthur Hill High School 36 1/2 at 28. The Trojans placed in eight of the 12 events at the finals. Saginaw High dropped just two meets during the season - the State Indoor Meet and a dual meet with Arthur Hill

*1947 - Edged Flint Central 42 1/3 to 31. Two Trojans, sprinter Marvin Cichowski and shot putter K.D. McKinnon, were unbeaten the last two years.

*1948 - Again, the Trojans defeated Arthur Hill in the finals, 37 1/2 to 34 1/2. Saginaw High, which won just three events, needed a win in the meet's final event - the 880-yard relay - to win the state championship.

*1949 - Saginaw High School showed its depth by scoring in nine of the 13 events for 44 first-place points.
