Don Cox
Don is a lifelong resident of Saginaw County. He attended Saginaw Public Schools until moving to Freeland during eighth grade. Don graduated from Freeland High School in 1977. He ran cross country and played basketball for three years for the Falcons. He was the school photographer his senior year. As a youth, Don played on several city recreation teams in football, softball and basketball. As an adult he played regularly in various city and township recreation leagues on basketball and softball teams, usually for Izzo Vending. Don helped coach many of the youth teams that his nieces and his son Brandon played for. He was an umpire for several years for Freeland Little League.
Don's family was a major influence on his love of sports. His father James B. Cox was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul Athletic Association and played for the SSPP Midgets undefeated and un-scored upon football team in 1937. His father helped build the press box at the old SSPP field on Sweet. His brothers Jerry and Ken played most sports.
Don graduated from the Art Institute Of Fort Lauderdale in 1981 majoring in photography. Former employers include Bradford la-Rivere Agency, Dow Chemical, and LaserColor Productions. He is currently self-employed as a freelance photographer. Occasionally his work appears in The Township Times and Review Magazine. Don volunteers as photographer for Hall of Fame events. In August, 2005 he started a sports photography web-site dedicated to high school sports. His "Sports Pages" include most of the schools in Saginaw County. Check here to see if your school has a page on the web-site.
