
Bill E. Halliday
Bill was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 3rd, 1939 (Parents William J. and Susie B. Halliday). As a youngster growing up he participated in Knothole Baseball, Football, Boy town Basketball, and later coached Knothole, Saginaw Township, and Connie Mack Baseball. He played City Federation Baseball at Vets Park and had the opportunity, as a catcher, to play with Bud Guttowsky and the late Lionel Ackerman. (Both former Professional Minor League Baseball Pitchers) He attended Webber Junior High School lettering in Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1957. Bill also attended Ann Arbor Pioneer High School fro one year, lettering in Football (6A league Champions) in Basketball, (6A League Champions and class A State semi Finalists), and Baseball. His senior year at Saginaw High school he was elected to the 1st Team All Valley Basketball Team. HE attended Bay City Junior College on a basketball scholarship his freshman year, and also attended The University of Wyoming on a Football scholarship his sophomore year, coached by Saginaw's own Bob Devaney. He served as a Carrollton Athletic Association Board Member, Vice-President, and President. He along with his wife Linda, were elevated as Honorary Lifetime Members of the Carrollton Athletic Association after serving over 11 years. Bill retired from GM Powertrain Saginaw Metal Castings Operations in 2001 as an Electrician and UAW Local 668 Skill Trades Representative and District Committeeman. After retirement, he now volunteers as a Ranger/Starter at Apple Mountain Golf Course, is a member of the Sawmill Golf Club, serves on the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame Board, and is Secretary of the UAQ/GM Powertrain Golf League on Tuesdays at Bay Valley Golf and Resort.
